Up-and-coming British heavyweight star Daniel Dubois has been named as one of ESPN’s Top 25 Under 25 fighters as he prepares to return to the ring next month.
The 22-year-old Londoner – seen by many experts as the potential successor to current British world heavyweight champions Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua – has been both exciting and dominant in building a 14-0 professional record with 13 victories coming inside distance.
His superb jab and heavy hands have won him plenty of admirers, and clearly that extends to ESPN, who listed him at number 9 in their prestigious roll of honour – which is voted for by a number of boxing contributors.
Dubois’ listing came with the following glowing profile, which read: “You know all about Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and might even know a bit about Dillian Whyte and Dereck Chisora. Dubois is the other British heavyweight – and if you don’t know much about him yet, you soon will. Dubois is an exciting, big puncher who has stopped all but one of his 14 opponents.”
Dubois has not appeared in the ring since last December thanks to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but he has a very important period in his blossoming career coming up in the next three months.
First he will return from that enforced layoff to take on the unbeaten German Erik Pfeifer (7-0 with 5 KOs) behind closed doors at BT Sport Studios in Stratford, London on Saturday August 29 (live on BT Sport).
And assuming he comes through that assignment safely, next up will be a big domestic showdown with fellow unbeaten prospect Joe Joyce (11-0 with 10 wins inside distance) at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday October 24.
Dubois was the only heavyweight to appear on the ESPN list, which was topped by IBF world lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez, who could face Vasyl Lomachenko in a unification fight later this year.
