Former Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow is to join Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions as a non-executive director.
Bercow was a high-profile figure in the Commons as he served as Speaker for more than a decade – presiding over some of the UK’s biggest political battles.
Now though he’s swapping the political ring for the boxing ring after Queensberry announced his appointment effective from April 1.
Bercow delighted
Warren said: “I am pleased to welcome John to Queensberry. John brings valuable knowledge and experience from his exceptional political career that will enhance the company’s ability to deliver its growth strategy both in the UK and International markets”.
Bercow meanwhile added: “I am delighted to be joining Queensberry. I look forward to supporting Frank and his team deliver their strategic objectives at this exciting time for both the company and the wider sport of boxing”.
Queensberry is one of the world’s leading boxing promoters, and has a long-standing UK broadcast agreement with BT Sport.
It promotes some of the biggest fighters in boxing, notably WBC, Ring magazine and lineal world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.
