Tyson Fury will take home a career-best payday by a massive margin for his world heavyweight title unification showdown vs Oleksandr Usyk – according to his brother Shane.
The 35-year-old ‘Gypsy King’ (34-0-1) had been due to lock horns with the brilliant Ukrainian in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on February 17. With all of the world heavyweight titles on the line. That plan was scuppered though when he suffered ‘a freak cut’ in training just over two weeks out.
Fury required 11 stitches to close the cut, and now the bout has been rescheduled for May 18. The whole saga resulted in wild conspiracy theories in some quarters that he had been looking for a way out of the fight.
Shane, who of course is a key part of Fury’s camp, has responded to the rumours and conspiracy theories by outlining the reasons they are complete nonsense. And one of them – quite simply – is money.
How much will Fury earn vs Usyk?
He told Boxing King Media: “There is no narrative about it in my eyes. Let me tell you, Tyson’s getting near on triple the amount of his highest payday. So that’s the one reason why you’re not gonna get pulled out.
“Another reason is we’re too confident of beating Usyk. Listen, I believe Usyk is a great fighter and he beats them all. I don’t there’s anyone else who beats him. But I don’t think he can beat Tyson – I don’t think he can. We was about to see that. I was looking forward to it myself, to watch, and just to see.
“But yeah, near on triple his highest payday, super-confident of doing the job, coming back-to-back off a training camp and a fight previously, coming in the ring sharp, coming in the best shape probably in the last, I don’t know however long and everything going well.”
