Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder 3 is right back in focus after Monday’s bombshell arbitration ruling, and ‘The Gypsy King’ is odds-on favourite to claim another victory.
Fury (30-0-1) of course was scheduled to meet Anthony Joshua on August 14 in Saudi Arabia to unify the world heavyweight titles.
But the ruling – which says Fury must instead meet Wilder (42-1-1) before September 15 – means the biggest fight in British history will now have to wait.
Fury vs Wilder 3 set for July 24
The Fury and Wilder camps have reportedly agreed to terms for the trilogy fight to happen in Las Vegas on Saturday July 24 – either at Allegiant Stadium or T-Mobile Arena.
Fury had said he would never fight Wilder again after the wild claims which came from the American’s camp following his rematch defeat by Tyson in February 2020. But now he may have no choice in the matter.
‘The Gypsy King’ was utterly dominant in destroying Wilder that night in the MGM Grand, battering the hitherto unbeaten American from the start. Wilder’s corner eventually threw in the towel to end the punishment in Round 7.
Fury vs Wilder 3 had been expected to go down in 2020. But after several false starts due to injury to Wilder and the COVID-19 pandemic, Fury said he was “moving on”.
Wilder’s team took the case to arbitration claiming they still had an enforceable contract for a third fight. Fury’s team was confident enough in the outcome to negotiate a two-fight deal with Joshua. And a record site fee of $155million (£109million) with Saudi Arabia for that first clash on August 14.
The result on Monday though was unexpected, effectively ruining those grand plans.
Fury a hot favourite
The UK bookmakers are in no doubt who they believe will win on July 24. They make Tyson a hot favourite.
