Usyk vs Fury 2 Weigh-In Results: ‘Gypsy King’ has MASSIVE size advantage and promises WAR

Tyson Fury weighed in at a huge 281lbs for his big rematch vs Oleksandr Usyk in Riyadh on Saturday night, but looks can be deceiving.

‘The Gypsy King’ was a relatively lean 262lbs when he suffered his first ever pro defeat in that first meeting with the Ukrainian maestro at the same venue in May. But he absolutely will look to use his size to greater effect when they meet again on Saturday night.

Fury tipped the scales at 281lbs (20st 1lb), some 19lbs heavier than for that first meeting – but that might not be the whole story. The Morecambe man was fully clothed on the scales, including a leather jacket, trousers and a baseball cap. So his real weight? Somewhere between the two.

The weight is an intriguing subplot to this massive showdown for the WBC, WBA, WBO, Ring magazine and lineal world heavyweight titles, remember Fury used all his bulk and power to batter Deontay Wilder into submission in their 2020 rematch in Las Vegas. Clearly he’ll try to do the same to Usyk on Saturday night.

The champion (22-0) meanwhile came in a couple of pounds heavier than for the first meeting – 226lbs (16st 2lbs) vs 224. But again he was fully clothed so probably bang on what he scaled in May.

The first meeting of course ended with that wafer-thin split decision in favour of Usyk. Thanks largely to a 10-8 Round 9 which turned the fight around after he had appeared to be in trouble during the middle section of the fight. He looked to be heading for the first loss of his career as Fury boxed beautifully and struggled to miss with body shots and uppercuts.

Then though Usyk kissed the cross around his neck between rounds and came out to break Fury’s nose. That started the renaissance and that incredible Round 9 made it absolutely reality. Fury would recover astonishingly to survive a traumatic session, but it would ultimately cost him victory.
