Daniel Dubois is ranked number 3 by the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) in its latest heavyweight rankings as he prepares to get his career back on track after the COVID-19 hiatus.
Dubois faces tricky German opponent Erik Pfeifer (7-0 with 5KOs) on Saturday August 29 at the BT Sport Studios in Stratford, London.
And ‘Dynamite’ – who has built a 14-0 record (13 inside distance) on the back of some fearsome performances – knows if all goes well that night he is lined up to face domestic rival Joe Joyce (10-0 with 9 inside) in front of a sellout crowd at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday October 24.
With boxing just starting to get back into full swing this month, the WBO has released its latest rankings and Dubois – seen by many as a future world champion – is again riding high in their list at number 3 on the roll of challengers to Anthony Joshua’s title.
Number 1 and mandatory contender of course is former cruiserweight king Oleksandr Usyk (17-0), who has so far had only one fight at heavyweight after making the move up from dominating at 200lbs. He is likely to face British veteran Dereck Chisora (32-9) in his next fight.
New Zealander Joseph Parker – whose two career defeats so far have come at the hands of British stars Joshua and Dillian Whyte, is second on the list of challengers with Dubois third.
Kubrat Pulev – mandatory IBF contender and due to face Joshua later this year – is fourth while Andy Ruiz Jr, who handed AJ his only professional defeat so far, is fifth. Another New Zealander – the unbeaten Junior Fa – is at 6.
Further down the list Chisora is at number 9 while Joyce is number 12.
