Anthony Joshua is still currently licking his wounds after that devastating beatdown at the hands of Daniel Dubois last month.
AJ was a hot favourite as he tried to become a three-time world heavyweight champion by challenging title holder Dubois for the IBF belt in front of more than 96,000 fans at Wembley Stadium.
But that record fight crowd at the iconic venue left utterly shocked after Dubois (now 22-2) delivered one of the most brutal beatdowns in recent world heavyweight title history.
Joshua stunned by Dubois
Joshua (now 28-4) was down at the end of the first from a massive right hand, and in truth he never really recovered. He was down again on three further occasions – the last time via a devastating short right from Dubois which closed the show early in Round 5.

It was the most brutal defeat of Joshua’s career so far, even more stunning than that shock reverse against late stand-in Andy Ruiz at Madison Square Garden back in 2019. This was utterly conclusive in every way.
As well as being handed his fourth pro defeat (earlier losses came to Ruiz and then twice to the great Oleksandr Usyk), AJ was also handed a suspension for his troubles.

AJ suspension
Joshua was handed a 28-day suspension by the British Boxing Board of Control, which may surprise non-boxing fans. It is in fact though standard procedure for any fighter who has suffered a knockout, and is all about their safety. And it should not affect Joshua’s future plans.
Top heayvweights tend to fight only two or three times a year, so it would be unlikely to see AJ out again until very late in 2024 at the earliest. And the 28-day ban means he’ll be eligible to return later this month.
Who will Joshua fight next?
The next big question of course will be who Joshua fights next, given he’s already said he plans to continue fighting.

There appear to be two clear options – an immediate rematch vs Dubois (this would likely be Joshua’s option) or wait to see the outcome of that Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury rematch on December 21. A Fury vs Joshua blockbuster at some stage in 2025 is highly likely with all of the power brokers – notably Turki Alalshikh and Eddie Hearn – saying it has to happen.
