Anthony Joshua shuts down interviewer over Usyk vs Dubois superfight

Anthony Joshua was in no mood for chatting when he shut down a series of questions about the upcoming Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois 2 heavyweight blockbuster in July.

The pair will lock horns at Wembley Stadium on July 19 with all of the world heavyweight titles on the line – Usyk is the WBC, WBA, WBO, Ring magazine and lineal king while Dubois holds the IBF belt.

AJ though is on the outside looking in right now, after suffering devastating defeats to both men.

Joshua (28-4) lost to Usyk twice on points in 2021 and 22, and was brutally knocked out by Dubois at Wembley Stadium last September in his most recent fight. While discussing the details of his comeback as he recovers from an elbow injury, he was asked his opinion on the upcoming bout.

Joshua shuts down interviewer

But the two-time world heavyweight champion was in no mood to share his thoughts on the contest, and speaking to iFL TV, he said: “I have a few thoughts about it, but I don’t want to talk about it too much because it’s not my fight, it’s their fight.

“I don’t want to promote their fight. I don’t want to talk about it. I’ll be honest with you, I don’t want to talk about it.”

When the interviewer pushed him for an answer, Joshua moaned: “Why are you asking me? Turn the camera off and then ask me. You’re asking me in front of the bright lights and putting it in the media to promote your channel and their fight. I’m not doing it.”

The interviewer reminded Joshua that the fight would be broadcast on DAZN, the same platform he fights on and for, but he wouldn’t say any more.

“It’s not my interest,” he added. “But it will be a good fight and good luck to both of them.”

Fury vs Joshua latest

The 35-year-old has hinted that he is still keen to finally fight fellow British superstar Tyson Fury later this year, after the Gypsy King suggested he could come out of retirement for one last bout.

But the elbow injured he recently suffered will keep him out of training for up to eight weeks, pushing his own schedule back to closer to December and meaning that Joshua is already drawing up an alternative list of opponents for his comeback.

So the likelihood is that a Fury vs Joshua fight would happen in 2026 if at all.
