We already knew Canelo Alvarez vs Jaime Munguia was set for Cinco de Mayo weekend in Las Vegas, and now we have confirmed US TV details for the blockbusting super-middleweight showdown.
Canelo (60-2-2) and Munguia (43-0) will lock horns on Saturday May 4 in a massive all-Mexican superfight with all of the 168lb titles held by Alvarez on the line, and there are multiple options for US fans looking to buy the fight on PPV.
Canelo next fight and TV details
The bout will be the first genuine megafight to be streamed as part of the new deal between Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) and Amazon Prime Video. It will be available to fans regardless of whether they have a Prime subscription or not.
Canelo vs Munguia will also be streamed by DAZN PPV in the United States, and the telecast will also be available through traditional cable and satellite outlets. As yet pricing is yet to be confirmed.
The pact between PBC and Amazon was announced late last year, after the end of Showtime’s involvement in big-time boxing broadcasts. It left Haymon and co looking for a dance partner, and Amazon was a pretty big fish to catch.
There had been doubt though that Canelo’s next fight would be part of the deal, with strong rumours he was about to walk away and return to DAZN due to a reported disagreement over whether he should fight the dangerous David Benavidez in September.
In the end though there appears to be have been something of a compromise, with the Mexican great now starring on both Prime and DAZN.
Last time round
The Munguia showdown will of course be the first fight of 2024 for Alvarez. He fought twice in 2023, registering easy unanimous decision victories over Britain’s John Ryder and then Jermell Charlo.
Munguia meanwhile was last seen out in late January, producing his own impressive victory over Ryder. He finished the job inside distance with a brutal stoppage after a terrific performance.
