Eddie Hearn talks restraining orders as ‘OBSESSED’ De La Hoya claps back AGAIN

He may have been joking, but the sentiment was clear from Eddie Hearn as he discussed rival promoter Oscar De La Hoya.

Hearn is getting a ton of publicity in the US right now, without having to promote anything. That’s to 10-time world champion fighter turned promoter De La Hoya.

The pair have been bitter promotional rivals in the US ever since new streaming platform DAZN handed Hearn and Matchroom that landmark $1bn deal back in 2018. But De Le Hoya’s weekly ‘Clap Back Thursday’ videos on social media are ramping things up even more.

This week might have been the most high-profile, as De La Hoya devoted the whole thing to Hearn and his alleged promotional inadequacies, you can watch the whole thing at the bottom of this article. It ended with Ryan Garcia making a walk-on appearance and flipping the finger at Eddie.

Hearn, not surprisingly, was asked about De La Hoya’s latest viral clip during his regular round of fight week interviews, and as ever provided a pretty measured response with a dry sense of humour.

Hearn on Oscar and ‘Clap Back Thursday’

He told FightHub TV: “I can’t get in a back and forwards because I’m giving the guy too much exposure. But I liked his one last night, and probably that video took the entire day and the editing was really good, I mean what a waste of Golden Boy’s time.

“It did make me quite horny, I’ll be honest with you, that kind of s*** I love it, because Oscar’s a big name, the fact that he’s posting about me – it doesn’t really matter what he says.”

Hearn went on to debunk some of the claims Oscar made in his viral clip, and then talked stalking and restraining orders with a wry smile on his face.

Time for a restraining order?

“I’ve said this before, you know over in the UK we have this thing called a restraining order where someone becomes really obsessed with you – I think you guys refer to it more as a stalker. So like we over here can go to court if you’re concerned almost for your safety because of that obsession that someone has with you.

“So obviously I don’t know what the situation is with that in America but I think it’s something I have to consider, because living in Oscar’s head rent free for so long, I feel like it’s time to just let it go. But I’ll probably give you something next week in Riyadh.”

The Riyadh tease of course refers to that massive promotion in Saudi next weekend – headlined by that Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol blockbuster at light-heavyweight.
