Moses Itauma world heavyweight title timeline REVEALED as MASSIVE fight teased for boxing’s ‘next big thing’

The hype around young British heavyweight sensation Moses Itauma is very real – but it also appears to be absolutely merited.

The Kent teenager will not turn 20 until the very end of 2024, but already he is being talked about as a future world heavyweight champion with promoter Frank Warren predicting he will be the division’s ‘next big thing’.

Itauma (10-0) continued his development recently with another blistering performance to blast out the highly durable Mariusz Wach, and the question now is where he goes next.

Joseph Parker vs Itauma?

His stated aim since turning pro has been to beat Mike Tyson’s record as the youngest ever world heavyweight champion. That might be a reach, but Francis Warren of promoter Queensberry does not believe it will be too long before that world title shot comes into view.

Before that of course ‘Enriko’ will need to step up in class, and there is much speculation about who he could face in doing so. One name thrown out there is former WBO heavyweight king Joseph Parker (35-3), and it’s a name Francis himself threw out there.

He told BoxNation: “I threw it out there to see what the feedback would be. It was good, a few people in Parker’s camp said ‘maybe’. It’s a fight that could be done, you’re always going to test the water to see what the reaction is. I like to see what everyone’s reaction is, a few people are going ‘it’s too soon for him’ or ‘it’s a perfect fight’.

“The most important person’s reaction was Moses – and he nodded and gave me a smile. ‘If we can do it, let’s do it’. I think he’s pretty straightforward in the fact that he wants to fight the biggest fights available. “

Potential world title timeline

Warren admits that the big challenge for the brains trust behind Itauma is not rushing this precocious talent, even though he shows such incredible potential. He also revealed an intriguing scenario when looking at a potential world heavyweight title timeline.

“Does he need more experience? I think he should have more experience. But does he need it? Who knows, I’m not comparing Mariusz Wach with Joseph Parker obviously but he’s surprising everybody with every fight. I think definitely a couple more step-up fights and I think then we can talk seriously about it.

“I don’t see any reason why Moses can’t fight for a world title within six fights – and how quickly those six fights get rattled off, who knows.”
