It’s the scenario that no British fight fan might like to even imagine, but what happens if Tyson Fury DOES NOT beat Oleksandr Usyk on May 18?
All the talk right now is about that Fury vs Anthony Joshua blockbuster finally happening after all these years and false starts. But for it to become reality, ‘The Gypsy King’ must beat Usyk in their May 18 blockbuster for. all the heavyweight marbles.

If the worst happens (for British fans, not for Oleksandr), then instead of Fury vs Joshua we will likely be getting Usyk vs Joshua – the trilogy fight nobody expected. Remember Saudi General Entertainment Authority chief Turki Alalshikh wants the Fury vs Usyk winner to face Joshua (28-3).
So what would happen if Joshua has to get in with Usyk (21-0) again? The man who defeated him twice with world heavyweight titles on the line back in 2021 and then 2022? Would things be different this time?
One pundit who has a very clear view on a potential third meeting of these two giants of the sport is Carl Froch. The former super-middleweight king and now Hall of Famer has zero doubts.
Usyk vs Joshua 3 – Froch verdict
Speaking on his ‘Froch on Fighting’ YouTube channel, he said: “AJ/Usyk, I’ve gotta say Usyk, he’s already beaten him twice. I feel like when Usyk steps on the gas and ups the tempo and the workrate, he dominates. It’s not like it’s a close fight, I think Usyk is far superior.
“But I think the question is a good question because Anthony Joshua looked very good – albeit against Ngannou who was making his second fight as a professional, which sounds ridiculous.

“But AJ is punching with confidence, he’s looking his opponent in the eyes and he’s standing with authority and he’s stepping in with his punches, rotating his body through. And that’s why he knocked out Ngannou in devastating fashion.”
Who is the best heavyweight?
While has been impressed by the Joshua renaissance, particularly since the arrival of Ben Davison as head trainer, Froch still cannot bring himself to put the two-time heavyweight champion ahead of Usyk and Fury. And he has no doubt about who is the true top of the pile.
“I don’t want to put him at 1 or 2 because we’ve got Tyson Fury and Usyk, but AJ is a real athlete, he looks the part and, mind’s right and I think he’s built himself back into it with Ben Davison, he’s listened to Ben Davison and he looks confident
“I’d have to say Usyk is the best heavyweight in the world at the minute. What an execeptional talent, what a great fighter. Don’t forget he’s got two wins over Anthony Joshua. I can’t say AJ wins, 100% he’s [Usyk] got his number.”
