Taylor vs Catterall 2: MAYHEM at Edinburgh presser with ‘Shortest head-to-head ever’

Eddie Hearn called it ‘the shortest head-to-head in boxing history’ and he might be right – the countdown to Josh Taylor vs Jack Catterall 2 is officially under way.

Just a few days ago the long-awaited rematch between two hated British rivals was inked with fight night set for Saturday April 27 at the First Direct Arena in Leeds. Two years on from their controversial first meeting in Glasgow, Catterall (28-1) gets his chance at last for revenge.

The first press conference of the media tour was eagerly awaited too – with Taylor getting home advantage on Monday as the boxing press descended on Edinburgh. Oh, and the public too, with an open invite to all. It was always going to be spicy, and so it proved.

On stage the talk between the two camps – and the two fighters – had all the edge you would imagine following on from that controversial split decision victory claimed by Taylor (19-1) back in February 2022.

Edinburgh presser KICKS OFF

The face-off/head-to-head/staredown – whatever you want to call it – was always destined to be brief. There was no way hands would not be laid on, and we didn’t have to wait long.

It must have been under a second when Taylor pushed Catterall, before Jack grabbed Josh by the throat. Mayhem ensued as Hearn and security looked to keep the (uneasy) peace.

The atmosphere here was raucous as a good portion of Edinburgh’s fight fans turned out in force to support Taylor and heckle team Catterall, including pantomime villain Sam Jones.

It was great stuff, and only whets the appetite for what might happen in Yorkshire in a couple of months time. Get the poporn ready.

We only have to wait just over 24 hours for now until they do it all again in Manchester (1730 local time, 1230 EST, 0930 PST) on Tuesday.
