Live: Watch the Joshua vs Jake Paul Weigh-in ahead as AJ targets crucial number

The hours are counting down and Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul is almost here.

On Friday night in Miami the two-time world heavyweight champion will go into battle with a relative novice 12-1 fighter who made his fame as a YouTuber and Disney Channel star. What a world…

Joshua (28-4) goes into the eight-round heavyweight contest (both men will wear 10oz gloves) as a heavy favourite – why wouldn’t he given the huge gulf in class and sheer physical size.

Joshua weight clause

We should point out that this is not your average weigh-in – there is a very important contractual clause which makes it well worth watching.

Contracts for the bout (for which both men will earn north of £50million each) states that Joshua must weigh no more than 111kg (245lbs or 17st 7lbs) when the two men step onto the scales later today.

It appears Paul had this clause inserted into the contract as he believed it would level the physical playing field somewhat and minimise the size difference between the two men.

But if Jake looked at the recent stats, AJ normally fights these days at just north of 250lbs and was under 245 as recently as his second fight vs Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia in August 2022. So we believe it will only be a very small factor this week.

For their last fights, Joshua was just over 252lbs (18st) for his defeat by Daniel Dubois in September 2024. Jake meanwhile was 199.5lbs (14st 3.5lbs) for his win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in June.

Fight start time and ring walks

The fight itself takes place late on Friday December 19 in the US, which is the early hours of Saturday December 20 in the UK.

Ring walks for the main event are expected to take place at around 2230 Eastern Time on Friday, which is 0330 Saturday in the UK. If you are watching on the West Coast, the key time to be around for is 1930 Pacific on Friday.

Watch the fight on Netflix

The great news is that the bout is absolutely FREE if you are an existing Netflix subscriber. The bout will be streamed live globally by the streaming platform. The undercard gets under way at around 2000 US time (0100 Saturday in the UK).
