The latest update comes on the back of that epic night at Wembley Stadium which saw the sport get a second undisputed heavyweight champion in the space of just 14 months.

Heavyweights rankings: World top 10

Our rankings are based on achievement and analysis, and they ignore the current ratings of the sport’s alphabet sanctioning bodies. And they will be updated after all major fights affecting our top 10:

1 Oleksandr Usyk (24-0)

It’s Usyk’s world right now – the rest of us are just living in it. The Ukrainian genius may be 38 now but he remains utterly peerless after destroying the dangerous Daniel Dubois inside five rounds in front of more than 90,000 purring fans at Wembley. It was absolutely brilliant yet again from Usyk as he toyed with Dubois, a man who remember had destroyed Anthony Joshua in the same ring just a few months earlier. Usyk has now been ordered to defend his WBO title vs Joseph Parker but there is a major catch. Instead it looks more likely he’ll take in a trilogy fight vs Tyson Fury or Joshua, or potentially even face off with the division’s next big thing Moses Itauma.

2 Tyson Fury (34-2-1)

As so many of us expected, Fury’s retirement is over and ‘The Gypsy King’ is coming back. The British superstar will not go out on the back of consecutive lossses to the great Usyk – instead he will come again in a bid to once again rule the sport’s marquee weight class. It appears Fury will not return until 2026 – and the two opponents he has specifically referenced are a Usyk trilogy or that long-awaited all-British blockbuster with Anthony Joshua. Make it happen, Turki…

3 Joseph Parker (36-3)

Parker looked he might be done at the very highest level when he was bludgeoned to defeat by Joe Joyce in late 2022, but since then he’s had a remarkable renaissance in reeling off six impressive wins. Included in those successes were hugely impressive performances in nullifying the big-punching threats posed by Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang. More recently Parker blasted out Martin Bakole inside a couple of rounds, after a world title showdown with Dubois was cancelled at the 11th hour. A world title shot beckons very very soon for this terrific all-round fighter and he is now the mandatory contender for the WBO belt. That body has ordered Usyk to defend against him, but it seems the sport’s money man have little interest in putting that bout together. So there is a chance Parker is handed the title or instead fights a different opponent with it on the line.

4 Daniel Dubois (22-3)

Dubois appeared at last to be the real deal after blasting out Joshua last September at Wembley to retain the IBF heavyweight title. It was a devastating which saw AJ on the canvas in four of the five rounds, and it appeared to signal that Dubois was now a threat to all in the division. His second defeat by Usyk at Wembley in July though showed that there are still rough edges to the man they call ‘Dynamite’. Now he must regroup again with many experts questioning his pre-fight preparation and his fighting heart.

5 Agit Kabayel (26-0)

The German star is now the mandatory contender for the WBC heavyweight title held by Usyk following a brilliant run of victories which have solidified him as a major threat. The talented German has taken apart Arslanbek Makhmudov, Frank Sanchez and Zhilei Zhang in successive fights to show he is a real contender to become the next big thing in the heavyweight division. Kabayel does everything well and he has the knack of executing the perfect gameplan, whoever is in the opposite corner. Sanchez for example presented a very different question to Makhmudov and Zhang, but he again had all the answers in demolishing the slick Cuban.

6 Anthony Joshua (28-4)

Joshua is expected to return later in 2025 after recovering from elbow surgery which has delayed his comeback following that devastating loss to Dubois in September 2024. AJ remains a massive draw and can pack any stadium in the world, but there are now very real doubts about what he has left at the highest level. Two defeats by Usyk showed that big punches are not everything in heavyweight boxing, and the loss to Dubois showed Joshua is also susceptible to a big banger himself. Several names have been mentioned for his next outing – notably American Deontay Wilder and that so far unachievable Fury showdown. Either would be a massive seller, but AJ might not start favourite to win either.

7 Moses Itauma (12-0)

The quite brilliant 20-year-old from Kent, England is seen as the next big thing in the heavyweight division – and it’s easy to see why. ‘Enriko’ is a spectacular talent and appears to have everything required to become a world champion one day. And there is every chance that day arrives very soon. Itauma (12-0 with 10 inside distance) was sensational again in his latest assignment – a two-round demolition job on American former NFL star Mike Balogun in Glasgow in May. Now the clamour is for him to be moved up in class, with Saudi power broker Turki Alalshikh saying he wants Itauma to face the mighty Usyk. For now though a fascinating showdown vs Dillian Whyte in August is an enticing prospect.

8 Bakhodir Jalolov (15-0)

‘The Big Uzbek’ could be the next big thing in heavyweight boxing now he has decided to go all in on the pro game. He has already built a 15-0 record in the paid ranks as well as winning two Olympic titles, and the Jalolov era could be just around the corner.

9 Filip Hrgovic (18-1)

‘El Animal’ began the process of rebuilding his reputation by outpointing Joe Joyce in Manchester in April. He took that bout at short notice to replace the injured Dillian Whyte, and overcame ‘The Juggernaut’ on the cards after a bruising encounter. It was a much-needed win for the Croatian star, who had suffered his first pro defeat at the hands of Dubois last June. That stopped his march towards a world title shot, having been one of the most avoided big men in the division. Will be out again soon and it will be fascinating to see how he shapes up as he tries to work his way back into title contention.

Next Fight: Hrgovic vs David Adeleye (August 16)

10 Fabio Wardley (19-0-1)

The Fabio Wardley fairytale continues after his latest incredible victory – a 10th-round knockout of Aussie Justis Huni in front of a packed crowd at Ipswich Town’s Portman Road stadium in early June. Wardley was well behind on all scorecards before unleashing a punch from the heavens to capitalise on a moment of over-confidence from the classy Huni. Wardley absolutely has his limitations but he can bang with the best of them, and this former white collar fighter is now on the brink of a world title shot
