Boxing P4P rankings latest with Canelo sliding and Nakatani moving on up

Boxing’s P4P (pound-for-pound) rankings are out once again – and once again they will create raging debate.

The mythical list of superstars at the top end of the fight game pitches greats from different weight divisions against each other. They may never meet inside the ropes but fans will argue about their brilliance outside.

Ring magazine – the bible of boxing – has the most credible P4P list around and this week it released its rankings for June, and once again they make for fascinating reading.

Top of the pile remains the peerless world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, who will face off with Britain’s Daniel Dubois at Wembley on July 19 for all of the marbles in the fight game’s marquee weight class. A win there would absolutely cement the brilliant Ukrainian in top spot, it would be the third time he has been an undisputed champion after previously reaching the summit at cruiserweight then heavyweight.

The brilliant undisputed super-bantamweight world champion Naoya Inoue remains number 2 in The Ring list after his terrific stoppage win over Ramon Cardenas in Las Vegas last month. The Japanese megastar (30-0) had to get off the floor to remain unbeaten after a thrilling bout.

Canelo vs Crawford a pivotal showdown

The number 3 spot is occupied by another brilliant unbeaten fighter in the shape of Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford (41-0) who of course is set to lock horns with Mexican megastar ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in Las Vegas on September 13 (live on Netflix). Canelo – at one time #1 on this list – is now way down at #8 after his disappointing win over William Scull in Riyadh in May.

One thing is for a sure – whoever wins that September 13 matchup will be right near the very top of this list in the aftermath, and it’s not a stretch to see Crawford going right to #1 should he win to remain unbeaten.

Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford First Face Off Superfight September 12 Allegiant Stadium Las Vegas
Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez face off as their super-middleweight superfight is announced for September 12, 2025 in Las Vegas.

The #4 and #5 positions are occupied by brilliant light-heavyweight stars Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev, who have fought each other twice in the last months – winning one each. A trilogy is absolutely something the entire boxing world would love to see.

We have two fighters swapping positions at #6 and #7, with Japan’s Junto Nakatani leapfrogging Texan superstar Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez. Nakatani (31-0) stayed perfect with a rousing win over Ryosuke Nishida last weekend while Rodriguez will be out on July 19 when he faces Phumelela Cafu in Frisco, Texas.

The fight game in Japan is booming right now and we have a third fighter from that country in the top 10, with WBC world flyweight king Kenshiro Teraji in at #9. The top 10 is completed by David Benavidez (30-0), who has moved up to light-heavy after failing to secure a money-spinning showdown with Canelo at super-middleweight.
