Shocking Itauma vs Whyte odds tell an incredible story ahead of heavyweight blockbuster

The anticipation is real, we are just five days out now from a heavyweight boxing blockbuster in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

On Saturday night the 20-year-old phenom that is Moses Itauma will lock horns with veteran warrior Dillian Whyte in a crossroads fight for both men.

This fight marks the first time the exciting Itauma (12-0 with 10 wins in the first 2 rounds) has topped a major show. Meanwhile for Whyte (31-3) we will get to find out just what he has left at the age of 37.

Dillian says he knows the script – he is the old wolf being fed to the young wolf, but of course he has a say in the matter. But what do the oddsmakers think?

You might expect the betting for this one to be pretty close – after all Itauma has never fought anybody of Whyte’s level (he challenged Tyson Fury for the WBC heavyweight title three short years ago) and Dillian is a dangerous foe with a number of top names on his CV.

If that is the case you will be shocked to see the latest market for the big Saudi showdown, which has Itauma as a massive favourite heading into fight week.

Latest Itauma vs Whyte odds

Right now, as of today (Monday August 11) at 8am UK time, Itauma is trading as a consensus 1/10 favourite, and he is as short as 1/14 in places – pretty incredible for what in theory is a competitive matchup. Whyte meanwhile is a big outsider at 7/1 with most layers.

The disparity between the two men is shocking given what the pair have achieved so far inside the ropes. It once again rams home the message that both Itauma and trainer Ben Davison have relayed in the last few days, the hype about Moses is off the charts.

Davison asked – quite rightly – why people expect Itauma to knock out Whyte in two or three rounds, while Moses asked why he is supposed to blast out ‘The Body Snatcher’ when it’s not even a thought for any other top heavyweight.

Quite simply Itauma is viewed differently to any other heavyweight prospect we’ve seen in a long time – possibly all the way back to when Mike Tyson was rampaging through the division in the late 80s. You know that is the case when Saudi power broker Turki Alalshikh is ALREADY calling for a showdown with the peerless current king Oleksandr Usyk.

Moses possesses dynamite in both fists, he’s unerringly accurate, extremely fast and has remarkable ring IQ for one so young. It’s an intoxicating mix which has the fans out of their seats and the purists purring.

On Saturday night we will find out whether the odds, and the hype, is all merited. He’s some fighter, get the popcorn, and enjoy.
