Frank Warren reveals what comes next for Moses Itauma, and massive hopes for young sensation

Frank Warren has already predicted that Moses Itauma will be the “next big thing” in boxing’s heavyweight division, and to say he has massive hopes for the 19-year-old prodigy would be an understatement.

The Hall of Fame promoter of course already has the WBC and lineal heavyweight king Tyson Fury in his stable, but in the shape of Kent wonderkid Itauma (8-0 with six wins inside distance) it appears he may have a ready-made successor for the future.

Itauma took the latest step in his exciting development on Saturday night as he blasted out Yorkshireman Dan Garber inside a round on a TNT Sports-televised show in London.

Southpaw Moses once again showcased his exciting skillset – fast hands, technical skills together with real power in both mitts as he took the limited Garber apart in just 2:22.

Warren’s Itauma verdict

Warren of course is expert at guiding the development of young fighters, and he knows that in the shape of Itauma he has something potentially very precious to look after. He’s acting accordingly.

Speaking afterwards, he told IFL TV: “He’s a young guy, he’s 19 a few months ago. He’s a very very powerful guy, he’s got fast hands, he’s strong. Doesn’t matter who he hits – if he catches you, he’s gonna hurt you. And that’s exactly what he did.”

We won’t have to wait too long before Itauma is out again – Warren says he will be in action in a couple of months (it sounds like on that massive Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk card in May).

“We’ll obviously keep trying to step him up, or we will step him up, but he responds to it – it’s as simple as that. He’s learning his craft and he did what he had to do. We’ll have him out again in May and hopefully it will be somebody who could give him more of a test. But as I say, if he catches you, you’re gone.”

Who is next for Itauma?

While Itauma is still very early in his professional career, Warren would not be afraid to give his young star a significant step up, if the circumstances were right.

He revealed: “If he’d have had a couple of 10-rounders, and I don’t mean 10 rounds under his belt – but being in fights that he’s training for 10 rounds – I’d put him in with nearly any of the Brits, except the top guys. Any of them.”
