Moses Itauma world title timeline revealed as Frank Warren teases potential Usyk blockbuster

Moses Itauma has only just turned 20 years of age and has only 11 pro fights under his belt, but already he is being talked about as a future world heavyweight champion. And in the very near future.

The prodigy from Kent, England is seen by many as the future of boxing’s marquee weight class – including his Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren.

The Queensberry supremo is of course extremely excited by his young charge, who is set to appear next vs Mike Balogun on the Josh Taylor vs Ekow Essuman undercard in Glasgow, Scotland on Saturday May 24. That bout will stream live on DAZN.

While Itauma will now not beat the record set by Mike Tyson of becoming the youngest world heavwyeight champion ever (20 years, 4 months and 22 days), Warren does not believe it will be long before ‘Enriko’ is challenging for one of the major belts.

Itauma world title bid this year?

“I think he could fight for a world title this year,” he told Sky Sports.

The top man in the heavyweight division right now is of course the Ukrainian genius Oleksandr Usyk (23-0), and Warren would not be totally shocked if Itauma ends up in the ring with him.

“Who knows? He may fight him [Usyk] this year. Anything’s possible. We’ve got to see what happens but the thing is with Moses, I think within another fight or two he’s quite capable of being in exactly the same company as all these guys. He can be up there with all of them.”

Why is Moses so good?

Itauma showcased his devastating skills late last year on his most recent bout – a stunning one-round obliteration of tough Aussie Demsey McKean. It was more proof of what Warren talks about when he discusses Moses.

“He’s got an excellent boxing brain, he’s got a superb jab. He measures his punches. Especially young guys, when they’ve got someone in trouble they swarm them, they don’t get their distance. He takes his time. He measures his shots before he throws them. He gets it dead on.”
