We are just two weeks out from confirmation that Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford is official, and have ANOTHER major change as the details become clearer for that September superfight.
The world super-middleweight title unification showdown was announced in the ring following Canelo’s disappointing decision win over William Scull in Riyadh. But the finer details put forward have changed significantly since that night in the desert.
Initially the date for the bout was given as Friday September 12 at Allegiant Stadium – home of the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders. That per Turki Alalshikh, the head of the Saudi General Entertainment Authority.

But earlier this week we got a major update with the date being moved to Saturday September 13, and five host sites across three cities (Vegas, New York and Los Angeles) now in the running.
The dust was just settling from that when today (Sunday May 18) brought yet another update/change – this time concerning the promoter for the bout.

Sela, and not TKO, will promote
The initial announcement had suggested that TKO (the joint venture between WWE and UFC) would promote the bout, which would have seen Dana White and Turki Alalshikh (Riyadh Season has a partnership with TKO) fronting the show. That would have likely seen the bout airing free on Netflix worldwide.
But on Sunday evening Alalshikh took to social media to provide another update, and he revealed that Saudi company Sela will promote the show for Riyadh Season.
He said: “We have confirmed the promoter for Canelo v Crawford will be Sela for Riyadh Season. The broadcaster we have not decided yet but the date will be Saturday 13th September. More details soon…”
Canelo vs Crawford – the belts
Canelo (63-2-2) once again became the undisputed world super-middleweight champion with that decision win over Scull, and all of his titles at 168lbs (WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF, Ring magazine and lineal title) will be on the line against Crawford (41-0).
What are the odds?
The odds are pretty close, with Canelo the 4/7 favourite and Crawford the 7/4 underdog. The Draw is an 18/1 shot.
