Eddie Hearn has confirmed that he and Anthony Joshua are starting a football agency, but not just any football agency.
We can confidently expect that Hearn and AJ will be aiming for global domination when they finally unleash a plan which Hearn says has been four or five years in the making.
During an interview last week Eddie joked that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo would probably be their first two signings – but knowing Hearn he was probably only half-joking.

Also during that interview he also used one unfortunate British town to sum up the magnitude of what he and two-time world heavyweight champion Joshua are looking to achieve. He had to pick one to back up the analogy, and it was little old Rotherham in South Yorkshire – population, just over 117,000.

This is not about Rotherham
Hearn told iFL TV: “This isn’t about me coming in and driving up the M6 to go and have a meeting with Rotherham [Ed – ouch]. You know, this is about actually bringing in people who have a client list – who know the game inside out, know the club, but using the expertise of Matchroom, Anthony, me, you know. Our ability to, to represent athletes, you know, from transfers to, you know, building their profiles, commercial deals, to concierge services, to everything.”
So while it doesn’t appear Rotherham is on Hearn’s map for world domination, there are plenty of places that are. Since the announcement (initially teased/leaked by Joshua last week) Eddie claims he has had messages from big name football stars asking for details on the project.
“So, there’s a lot of work that needs to be do— I had no idea he was gonna post that last night. And I woke up this morning, I was like (makes a shocked facial expression) and I mean, I’ve had… three dozen DMs from footballers. Asking for more information. Like, top players. Yeah, top players, sending me the old eyes emoji.”
Joshua leaks
Hearn said normally he is the one who teases info to the media, and says it nice for AJ to be the ‘leaker’ for once.
“I didn’t expect him to do that. And then I’ve just had the Daily Mail on, asking – I’ve done a big football column for now – asking, talking about, yeah tell us more about the future, and the plans – I’m like, honestly, we’ve got a lot of work to do.
“This is AJ’s post. Normally, normally it’s me opening my mouth. It was quite nice that it was AJ for once, because normally I get the blame.”
AJ boxes on
Just because Hearn and Joshua are starting their own football agency, don’t think that means boxing is done for the 35-year-old AJ (now 28-4 as a pro). He is expected to return to action soon having been out for 11 months since that devastating loss to Daniel Dubois last September. The British superstar underwent elbow surgery in May.
