There are no barriers left to a superfight putting British heavyweight boxing greats Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua.
Neither man holds a title, there are no boxing politics to get in the way and there are no bigger fights out there for either man (sorry, Jake Paul).
Despite the constant speculation about these two finally meeting inside a boxing ring (remember they came very close on a couple of occasions in the past, notably back in 2021), AJ (28-4) is generally pretty quiet about the whole thing. A man not given to hyperbole, a man who keeps his counsel.
But now, even the 35-year-old Watford megastar and two-time world heavyweight champion is out there on social media, trolling ‘The Gypsy King’ (34-2-1) and talking about a possible fight between the pair. One that promoter Eddie Hearn has said would net each man north of £100million.
Joshua, who is working his way back to full fitness after elbow surgery in May, is now likely to return to the ring in early 2026. This week he’s in Las Vegas for that Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford megafight which streams live on Netflix this Saturday night.
And AJ started the countdown for a massive fight of his own – that potential blockbuster against another two-time heavyweight champion Fury.

Joshua goes off on Tyson Fury
Writing on Instagram, he used Joseph Parker and the announcement of his fight vs Fabio Wardley to take shots at Fury, as he wrote: “Icl I’m proud of Joseph Parker. Even tho he is a competitor. Real recognises real. He’s in the game to fight whoever, whenever and that’s the DNA of a real general. Unlike his dippy mate Tyson Fury.
“I would discet his career/record in minutes but I’ll leave that for a potential gloves are off if he ever comes back and fights Big Femi.
“Fabio Wardley, respect to you aswel. Bro was working in recruitment helping your dad get a job a cuttla years ago.
“Let that be a testament to God rooting in one’s favour and a statement to show, nothing is impossible (if you can have a scrap haha).”
AJ says he WILL be back soon
Then Joshua ended his telling message with another note for Fury, along with his fans. He’s coming back soon, and ready to take on ‘The Gypsy King’.
“To my supporters, I’ll be back to lace up my boots and put on my gloves sooner than later, hopefully punching Fury’s head in and dancing around his flicker jab with ease.”
So why is this so significant when it comes to Fury vs Joshua matchup? Quite simply, it’s AJ saying it. Fury is known for trolling his opponents – real or potential – on social media. But Joshua, like we said, normally keeps things buttoned up. Now though, things have changed.
This is absolutely the most significant sign that the all-British blockbuster is once again on the agenda. Assuming Fury follows through on his decision to unretire. Remember he hung up his gloves after the second of back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024.
Joshua meanwhile also has some demons to banish after his last outing – a devastating fifth-round knockout loss to fellow Brit Daniel Dubois at Wembley in September 2024. That ruined his hopes (for now) of becoming a three-time world heavyweight champion.
