Tyson Fury comeback saga takes FRESH Twist, this time at Doncaster Racecourse

It appears Tyson Fury is making another boxing comeback, or is he?

‘The Gypsy King’ announcing he was hanging up his gloves in January, on the back of a second consecutive loss to the great Oleksandr Usyk in world heavyweight title combat.

Those were the first losses of Fury’s long and storied professional career, both by decision and both in close fights. It was time for the 36-year-old to spend more time with his family – wife Paris and their seven children – at their home in Morecambe, England.

Despite that major announcement, many experts still believed Fury (34-2-1) would fight again, it was not like he was running on empty having pushed Usyk so close, particularly in their epic first meeting for the undisputed heavyweight title in Riyadh in May 2024.

And then recently, after several teases on social media, Fury DID announce he was coming back, with a return likely in 2026. The opponents? Either a trilogy showdown with Usyk or that long-awaited all-British blockbuster vs Anthony Joshua.

Tyson Fury comeback latest

For a few weeks it seemed all systems go, until Saturday (August 2) that is. That’s when Fury again had media in uproar with a short interview given to Sky Sports Racing while at Doncaster Racecourse of all places.

Fury was asked by the interviewer when he would be back in the ring, to which he replied: “Never”.

Fury continued: “Too old, look at my beard, all grey. Boxing is a young man’s game.”

So what are we to make of this latest update? It should be said that Tyson is the arch joker, with a terrific sense of humour. He did have something of a glint in his eye when he uttered that statement.

Our verdict is that it changes little, we still expect the two-time world heavyweight champion to return one day soon, likely in early 2026. But our money is on that Joshua blockbuster rather than an Usyk trilogy.

As for the trip to the races, that didn’t have the perfect ending for Tyson – his horse Big Gypsy King, sent off at odds of 7/1, finished last of 11 in the UNISON Campaigning For Public Services Handicap.
