It’s so close you can almost touch it – we are now just just over a month out from Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk.
There have been many bumps in the road to get here, notably that cut eye for Fury which scuppered a planned February 17 date with the Ukrainian genius in Saudi Arabia.
Now the heavyweight unification blockbuster is rescheduled for May 18 (live on DAZN, Sky Sports and TNT Sports), and ‘The Gypsy King’ (34-0-1) looked incredible this week when he faced the media at a press conference in his home town of Morecambe, England.

Fury is already in spectacular shape as he closes in on the biggest fight of his life – in fact he was at pains to stress that also provides his greatest fear right now. He is terrified that it could be too soon.
There is one major milestone still to pass though – as yet Fury’s preparation for that new date has yet to include sparring. The most important part of any fighter’s camp.
Speaking at the press conference, his manager Spencer Brown talked about the cut, how it is healing, and when ‘The Gypsy King’ will be cleared to resume sparring.
Fury cut, and sparring return
“Looks like it’s healing very well. It’s still a little bit pink, but we’re very confident that in the next week or so, we’ll be sparring. He’s looking forward to sparring.”
Brown also talked about the talent being brought in for sparring to ensure that Fury is at his absolute peak for May 18.

“World champion after world champion. We’re bringing in one very lively amateur, which nobody really knows about. He’s a top-class amateur, he’s from the Olympics.
“Then we’ve got another kid, Alexis from Canada, who nobody really knows about either. But this kid’s very, very, very special. So we’ve got a bit of everything, we’ve got a bit of everything.”
